Batik Work in Progress.

Applying a mix of beeswax and paraffin with a "tjanting tool".

Batik is a wax resist technique for designing on fabric.  I stretch the fabric on a cardboard frame, then draw with molten wax using brushes or a pen-like tool called a tjanting.   Where the wax penetrates the fabric it blocks out the dye.  The image is created using one or multiple layers of wax and dye.
